4+ fantastic Fika updates from March Fika Team

March brought a few breakthroughs we want to share. Each month, we compile a list of updates and new features added to Fika. This helps us see how far we have come and gives us some direction on where to go next.

Here are four new things on Fika. Two can really speed up your publication's growth, so read this article to learn more and get tips on how to make the most of them.

1. Communicate with other people on Fika

Writing can be lonely, especially if you don’t know who is reading what you write. First, we released emoji reactions to give your readers a way to signal to you that, “hey, I’m here, I’m reading this!”

Go leave a comment on a publication you enjoyed!

Now, we’re giving you a way to send and receive letters and comments. To create a real community on Fika, we need your help. Go test this new feature. Explore a few publications on Fika, find three that you find interesting, and leave a comment. Let's show each other support and grow our online community together.

2. We highlight exceptional posts in Fika’s Discover section every week

Every week, we handpick great writing from Fika and add it to the Discover section so you can find more things to read on the platform.

You’ll find featured posts in the new Discover section, a curated space to read something new and worth your time. We’re also showcasing them on our public homepage, so great work can reach even further.

3. Take customization a step further with your own browser icon

You can now customize the browser tab icon to match your style. By default, the icon uses your publication logo, but you can choose a completely different one if you prefer.

Fika is all about personalization. We want to give you everything you need to create a space on the Internet where your writing can live.

Go to your publication settings and set up your space the way you want it to look.

Personalizing your publication

Personalizing your publication starts with giving it a name you like, as well as a title and description that tells readers what to expect. This way, they know why they should subscribe to you. Other things you can add to your page to make it your own include:

  • Language: set up your primary language and add languages to translate your newsletters to

  • Branding: a wordmark and a favicon

  • Header and footer

  • Reaction emojis: choose which to use

  • Welcome email: one of the most important things to customize, because it's your first direct contact with new subscribers

Why personalization is important

Go check your publication to make sure you have everything set up. Completely customized profiles will feel closer to who you are as a writer, and your readers will also feel the extra love you give the work you share with them.

Customize your publication to attract your readers.

Pay special attention to how you describe your publication and design every email sent to your readers to provide them with a nice experience. Remember also to add banners or calls to action to your content that ask readers to subscribe. This will help grow your mailing list and ensure that your work always reaches the right people.

4. Another way to grow your subscriber list: forms

Writers on Fika can now create subscription forms to grow their newsletter audience and deliver gated content more effectively. With this update, you can upload and host files behind a subscription form, turning your content into high-converting lead magnets.

Upload your own lead magnets to generate subscribers.

The new Forms section makes it easy to manage everything in one place, track performance, and see which forms bring in the most subscribers. You can include multiple files, customize welcome emails, and control who gets access: everyone, subscribers, or specific paid tiers.

Embed forms directly into your articles

Forms can be embedded directly into your articles, helping you convert readers into subscribers. That way, you can easily grow your mailing list and always get your work delivered to the people who read it.

Grow your audience strategically

You will also gain better insights, with clear visibility into which subscribers came from each form, available both in the Audience section and exports.

Plus, you can now upload multiple header images to create a more engaging, gallery-style showcase for your downloads.

Happy writing!

That’s all for this update, folks. We hope you can make the most of these new tools and remember, if you ever get stuck, we have a Help Center where we answer all your questions.

Fika is growing fast, and we see more people producing great work on the platform. The team is working hard on making Fika the best place for writing and earning online. If you are curious about what we have planned for the coming months, check out our roadmap and changelog.

Comments

I am not a fan of the comments section and the reactions.

So far, Fika was the only blogging platform that would let bloggers write without having to deal with a feedback. I understand that you are trying to grow your community organically, and for that you need people to engage with other users.

But that really is the one thing I despise on every corner of the internet.

I want to be able to write without the approval reactions and comments give. I don't want that popularity chase. I don't want to uncousciously feel like an article is more worth reading just because it has received tons of reactions. And that's exactly the way those popularity metrics shape our perceptions.

Comments and reactions should at least be optional for people like me. I can't be the only one who doesn't like them!
